Our mission at Asimov is to advance humanity's ability to design living systems, enabling biotechnologies with outsized benefit to society. We're developing a mammalian synthetic biology platform––from cells to software––to enable the design and manufacture of next-generation therapeutics.
The Laboratory Operations team is a small but mighty team, focused on supporting our growing team of scientists. You’ll work closely with Jess (Laboratory Operations Manager) and Alex (Laboratory Operations Technician) to help ensure that the facility operates smoothly. This is a truly unique opportunity to work at a nimble, forward-thinking synthetic biology startup and help build the foundation for engineering biology.

About the role:

  • We work together as a team, supporting scientists, engineers and researchers from many disciplines and backgrounds that are focused on genetic engineering of mammalian cells to create better platforms to produce human therapeutics.
  • You’ll be the primary resource for keeping some of our most critical equipment up and running smoothly by performing routine daily or weekly maintenance, alignment, calibration etc, basic troubleshooting and repairs, and coordinating vendor interactions. These include ambr15 (x4), ambr250 (x1), Nova Flex2 (x5), and ViCells (x6).
  • You’ll investigate equipment failures for instruments not mentioned above and serve as a system expert for troubleshooting and repairs.
  • You’ll assist with installing new equipment and writing associated maintenance procedures.
  • You’ll meet with equipment engineers, techs, and vendors on equipment service calls.
  • You’ll assist and participate in safety and compliance initiatives.
  • Occasionally you’ll be on call for critical laboratory alarm system testing and maintenance.

About you:

  • You value teamwork and are motivated to contribute to the team’s goals.
  • You have a customer service mindset and feel motivated to help set others up for success by anticipating needs and responding quickly.
  • Prior experience with Nova Flex, Beckman Coulter Vicell and/or Sartorius ambr instruments is desired but not required.
  • Being detail-oriented isn’t just a sound bite for you, it’s part of your DNA. Keeping track of a bunch of moving parts is easy for you because you’re highly organized.
  • You’re comfortable communicating in person, on the phone, and in writing with folks from diverse backgrounds and disciplines.
  • A lot of our work is done on the computer. You feel comfortable with basic tools and web apps.
  • You know your way around a laboratory or have worked for at least 2 years in a lab or facilities role.
  • Don’t let this stop you from applying, but we’d be excited to see that you have a Bachelor's degree or Associate's degree in a scientific discipline.
We're fueled by a vision to transform biological engineering into a fully-fledged engineering discipline. Should you join our team, you will grow with a constantly evolving organization and push the frontiers of synthetic biology. Company culture is key to Asimov, and ours is a culture of recombination; we believe that our mission can only be achieved by bringing together a diverse team with a mixture of backgrounds and perspectives.
