About Us
Sofar Sounds is a global community that connects artists and audiences through unique and intimate experiences. Sofar shows transform everyday spaces — from living rooms and rooftops, to boutiques and museums — into captivating venues for intimate gigs, creating inclusive experiences that bring people closer together. Founded in London in 2009, Sofar creates space where music and arts matter in 400 cities around the world.
The Role
In Spring last year, we launched our Sofar singles nights (“Heartbeat”). These have been inclusive events, primarily targeting heterosexual couples. After speaking with members of our community, we are now looking to launch this offering for the LGBTQ+ community. As a Freelance Promoter, you’ll curate and promote shows to build a strong and vibrant Sofar community in your city. For this role, we are also looking for someone with a deep affinity to the LGBTQ+ community. You’ll be a true Sofar ambassador – partnering closely with the central Concerts and local city operations and marketing teams to curate and book exceptional events, conceptualize and execute local marketing initiatives, and expand Sofar’s footprint.
Our Promoters live and breathe music. They’re always on the cutting edge of discovering new sounds across genres, maintain a keen awareness of cultural trends, and have communities that they can easily tap in to organize and promote amazing live events (including artists, locations, sponsors, etc.). They’re entrepreneurial, resourceful, and driven; whether it’s figuring out how to creatively sell tickets or dealing with a live event curveball, they know how to get things done and thrive on the challenge. If this sounds like you, we can’t wait to meet you!
*Please note that this is a 4-month fixed-term contract. Our Producers are freelancers who earn commission-based pay. It will allow for a flexible schedule, but your activities will likely take place over weekends and evenings.

What you'll do:

  • Own and grow on the success of our Sofar Singles Nights (“Heartbeat”) tailored specifically to LGBTQ+ communities – promoting and selling tickets in your city with self-directed local marketing tactics.
  • Create a vision and collaborate with the central Concerts team to build and execute your strategy to grow this Sofar offering - number of monthly shows, neighborhoods, show theme ideas, etc.
  • Lead curation and booking for shows in your city with the highest-quality, diverse set of artists and venues, continuing to grow our networks, as needed.
  • Identify and build relationships with local organizations with like-minded audiences to build community, broaden our reach, and co-promote shows.
  • Own the quality of shows in your local market, working closely with the central Concerts team and local staff to ensure magical experiences that are rooted in hospitality
  • Build relationships with local businesses to drive sales of sponsorships

Who you are:

  • You have 1-3 years of experience in live event curation, promotions, social media marketing, sales, and/or partnerships.
  • You have a deep affinity with LGBTQ+ communities.
  • You have a deep network within the dance community, including emerging and established dancers. You have a sharp eye for discovering talent.
  • You are passionate about the arts, and eager to capitalize on everything that a Sofar show offers – including building local connections and giving opportunities to dancers around London
  • You have a strong pulse on your city, the unique nature of each neighbourhood, and where people like to spend their free time
  • You know how to connect with diverse community-driven organisations, media partners, or local businesses that would add strategic value to growing our dance presence in London
  • You’re actively engaged in your local cultural scene and build community around it
  • You have exceptional time management skills and are a clear written communicator
If our mission and job opening resonate, you're encouraged to apply even if your experience doesn't precisely match the job description. We are committed to creating a culture of belonging and building a diverse team that reflects a variety of lived experiences, perspectives, and skills.
